K9 was seriously running out of power very fast on the small 4.5Amp batteries so they have now been increased in size to three 15 Amp batteries. It does add much more weight and I can now just about pick K9 up, but the extra weight does not slow him down at all. The larger batteries did mean a redesign of the lower drive tray but it now looks and drives much better with the better weight distribution. I have also removed some extra bits from the bases giving the drive wheels a bit more spring acting a bit like crude suspension. I made my first K9 many years ago as an Arts degree project The second was a computer case mod, more of a homage to K9 than a replica. The third was a full size replica with all the working gadgets and more. After attending a number of public events and noticing that K9 replica builds seemed to be coming family common place I decided to take my K9 back to the drawing board. With an unnatural interest in StarTrek the new K9 design was easy. Say hello to K7 of 9.

K9 New drive tray
